NZXT Kraken AIO Liquid Cooler | Launching a product in a highly commoditized space that was 3x the average cost. Sounds fun right?

The AIO market was saturated, with more than 30 manufacturers competing for attention. Our differentiator was an LCD-equipped pump head that displayed real-time thermal readings—giving builders a clearer view of their PC’s performance. However, both Corsair and Thermaltake had released similar LCD-based solutions six months before our launch, putting us at a competitive disadvantage and forcing us to rethink how we would stand out in an already crowded space.

NZXT set a new standard for product design in PC hardware, elevating the aesthetic and build quality across the category. Yet competitors like Thermaltake offered nearly identical industrial design, making visual differentiation alone increasingly difficult. NZXT’s real advantage emerged in the experience—how builders interacted with the ecosystem from setup to everyday use. And at the heart of that experience was personalization, giving users a deeper sense of expression and ownership that competitors couldn’t replicate.

Because competitors were already in the market, this product was fast-tracked into production. To meet the aggressive timeline, we relied heavily on automation to deliver 650+ assets across 13 localized languages. Our team built a component-based template system in Figma using Auto-Layout, enabling us to rapidly mass-produce digital assets and generate alternate variations for A/B testing.

To break through the noise, we partnered with RTFKT Studios, who were dominating AR sneaker culture, while NVIDIA 3080 hype was peaking.

We created the NZXT x RTFKT AR sneaker—a digital sneaker inspired by the Kraken’s design.

 

This activation amplified awareness and drove excitement leading directly to product demand.
