NZXT Build Kit
The product team had a simple idea: since we sold both PC parts and fully built gaming systems, why not offer a kit that let customers build their own? But instead of just tossing components into a box, because that's been done by competitors, we wanted to create something far more intentional. I was tasked with shaping the narrative and designing the end-to-end experience, turning a pile of parts into an approachable, confidence-building journey.

The story wasn’t just a creative manual—it was part of a full support ecosystem built to remove every possible customer blocker. We added live video support, expedited Zendesk chat, a direct phone line, step-by-step video guides, and post-purchase educational emails on maintenance and upgrades. We wanted every builder, regardless of skill level, to feel supported from start to finish.

It was a compelling idea, but we weren’t the first—HP, Newegg, and even Corsair bundles were already offering DIY-style kits.
What our data made clear, however, was that the biggest barrier wasn’t the hardware itself—it was the fear of damaging components due to a lack of confidence.

Meet Pucci, the NZXT community mascot born from our magnetic Puck accessory. We cast him as the hero of the BLD Kit, leading builders through challenges and discoveries that turn PC assembly into an engaging, story-driven quest.

Our goal with the BLD KIT project was to lower the barrier of entry for prospective new PC builders. Many people are intimidated by the prospect of building a PC, but with the right guidance it's simple and very gratifying. We wanted to help users overcome any doubts or concerns, and make the BLD KIT the ideal foray into the PC building space.

The process included a rigorous user-testing process, iterating our booklet and help videos multiple times, resulting in a failproof final product. Everything from a tool kit, QR codes in every step that was paired with a video tutorial, so live video calls.

The NZXT BLD Kit was met with overwhelming praise from the influencer community. This video from JayzTwoCents offers a first-hand look at the post-purchase experience and the full build journey. It’s a great representation of how approachable and well-crafted the kit truly is.
In total, the combined coverage from a handful of influencers generated roughly 4 million views.
